Baptism
Welcoming a new member to the Catholic faith is one of the most joyful experiences for a faith community. When Jesus Himself chose to be baptized, He affirmed the importance of openly declaring one’s faith and becoming part of the family of believers.
St. Mary’s can assist you in preparing for the Sacrament of Baptism by offering:
- Preparation classes for parents of infants (for your first child baptized) as mandated by the Diocese of Buffalo.
- Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) classes for adults wishing to be baptized. (RCIA classes also apply to adults wishing to learn more about Catholicism, convert, or complete other missed sacraments.)
- Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) classes for children preparing to convert or who have missed Baptism or other sacraments.
Only one of these programs is necessary.
Baptisms are celebrated at 1:15 p.m. on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.
Godparents should be practicing Catholics who are able to obtain a Letter of Recommendation from their parish. For more information on choosing godparents, click here.
